Keban Salvage Project: 1968-1974

Planned construction of the Keban Dam on the Euphrates made it necessary for a salvage project to be undertaken on the regions that would soon be flooded. Assembled under former METU President Kemal Kurdaş, 13 national and international teams undertook extensive survey and excavation efforts, identifying more than 60 archaeological localities and carrying out systematical excavations on 19 sites, making the Keban Project a landmark in cultural heritage research in Turkey.
